Grrr-rumbling Tummies

Today, it became clear to me during "arsenic hour" just how cranky kids can get when they're hungry. My daughter is normally so cheery and sweet, with only happy "bups" being emitted. Today, I began the very first steps of weaning, so her tummy got a little emptier than normal. So, she was crying and Jacob was irritable. It was loads of fun! Finally, I got supper on the table and everyone's mood improved greatly (mine included) and Rachel and I had a lovely time lingering over her food.

Then I got to thinking. Just how cranky, irritable, and whiney do I get, when it's been too long since I last came to Jesus for nourishment? Draw me, Lord to get my daily bread. Fill me with your goodness and love. Quiet me with contentment.

A Date! A Date!

Rod and I went on a date last night! This will be a date a month for the last two months. I'm stoked! We dropped off our kids around 7:00, found a hoop and played two games of 21 and a game of one-on-one, all of which Rod managed to win. But I put up a fight and not too much of a stink (I'm not always good at losing).

Then we meandered around until we found a place to get a drink (Zellers/Pharmaplus). Found greeting cards for each other and put them back. Bought some toothbrushes and things. Then found a bench, had our drinks, and chatted. All too soon 9:00 rolled around and we had to pick up our kids (God bless our friends who did this so last-minute).

We commented on how like the early days this date was. So refreshing to the spirit. Thanks, God, for the idea.

Saturday

Done Driving

We're back from our second wedding in Saskatchewan. No more all-day car rides for a while (at least until November). No more dressing up...can you believe I have no pictures of myself? Rod was the photographer for both weddings, but we never got our photo taken (and we looked hot!) Those are the hazards...

I was reminded of my love for beauty again this week. It was such a delight to take in the gorgeous green of the dresses, the glow of the bride and groom, the little details in the reception hall (I think I need to get some Chinese lanterns for my livingroom!). It was so refreshing!

I was also reminded of my need for solitude. Totally crashed after the wedding. Stuck my head between two pillows and flopped on the bed. Then journalled and rested while Rachel napped and the boys swam. Then I could function again...except for my arms and back. I need to build some serious muscles to haul Rachel around during public events.

And I was able to voice some unsought dreams to Rod...of finding venues to perform music. I'm really good at valuing dreams and supporting Rod in pursuing them, but it's been a while since I've had my own on the front burner. It's just simpler and safer to let them simmer in the background. Unfortunately, it's more like leaving your toast on the table...just gets cold and stale rather than more rich in flavour.

I've certainly enjoyed writing lately. Bob Miller gave me that word in passing a while back: "Write!" Have to visit the page more.

On that note, thank you for visiting! Dont' be afraid to leave a comment! (Anonymously or otherwise).
Tagged. (this was way too much like homework)

We're Back...

All in all, it was quite a good trip. Connected with family and even initiated some extra time with old Bible School friends. That was one highlight. Another was looking smashing at the wedding (sorry, no photos). Celebrated some birthdays, including mine. Got some lovely gifts. Nobody got sick on the trip, although there was certainly a lack of sleep going on.

Now we have a few crazy days at home and then we go to Moose Jaw for another wedding!

On another note, we found out that the property we had hoped for will not be ours. (We had put in an offer for a triplex on Pritchard that would've housed us, a studio space, and a rental suite for a very good price). The whole process was definitely a test of our trust in God as our loving heavenly Father and provider and of our persistence in prayer. It's also easy to second-guess ourselves in the negotiations. We certainly could've paid what it sold for, but we didn't even really have a chance. Although it seemed like the perfect fit for us, we are believing that God has something even better. Definitely disappointing and a bit disheartening. Trying to find something else and discerning God's voice in this is daunting. But the journey continues. Our desire is to decrease our debt, move closer to the community our church is reaching, have studio space outside our living space, and possibly build community with others. So keep praying!
